The internet is filled with opinions about service dogs. Some are helpful. Some are misleading. Some are simply wrong.
Rather than asking readers to trust us because of a list of credentials, we would encourage them to look closely at the experiences behind the information.
Service Dog Magazine was created by people who have lived the realities of service dog workâthe successes, the failures, the difficult decisions, and the extraordinary moments when a well-trained dog changes someone’s life.
Over the years, we have evaluated applicants, matched dogs and handlers, trained service dogs, supported teams after placement, celebrated successes, and experienced the heartbreak that comes when a dog doesn’t succeed or when a beloved dog leaves for its new home.
Those experiences taught us something important:
Service dogs are not products.
They are living partners whose success depends on thoughtful selection, careful training, ongoing support, and a genuine commitment to both the dog and the person they serve.
Our goal is not to tell readers what to think.
Our goal is to share what we have learned, encourage critical thinking, and help people make informed decisions about service dogs, training programs, and the organizations that serve them.
Trust should never be given blindly.
